Teams have split 1-0 games this season

Good game all around tonight.  Both teams put the ball in play for the most part against two really good high school pitchers and both teams played excellent defense behind them.  Westosha broke through for their run in the 5th after a leadoff walk and SB put the runner in scoring position.  After a strikeout followed by an infield single put runners on 1st and 3rd it looked like the Broncos may be able to wiggle out again, however, a dropped foul ball gave Westosha the opening they needed to get a single into left to score the games only run.  Coach Boylen added this about the game, "That is the way a 1 vs 2 game should be.  Obviously we are disappointed we came out on the losing side of the stick but somebody unfortunately has to lose these great games and tonight that happened to be us.  At the end of the day our girls made some nice plays, their girls made some awesome plays, they just made one more than we did tonight."

Westosha Central pulled into a conference tie with Union Grove with a 1-0 win over the Broncos in Paddock Lake. Alyssa Hrncar earned the win, shutting out the powerful Bronco offense on 4 hits while striking out 3. Not to be outdone, Brittany Moore took a tough loss. She also allowed only four hits while striking out 2. The game moved along, scoreless until the 5th. Elaine Andersen was able to coax a lead off walk. She stole 2nd and then reached 3rd on an infield single by Kayla Kerkman. She was plated on a hard single to left by Jenna Kontaxis to score the only run of the game. "I think we just outlasted them tonight. This was a game that lived up to the billing. Two really good teams battled to the last out. We are just happy we came out on top." (co-head coach Tom Lampe) Both teams had their opportunities to put runs on the board but they were stopped by good defense and good pitching. In the 3rd, Carrie Weis led off with a double and it looked like the Falcons had runners on the corners, but an in-play ball by Kayla Kerkman was ruled foul. On the next pitch, Kerkman lined out to 3B Alyssa McClelland. "We thought we had a hit but the umpires ruled otherwise. After the game I was told by several people that the umps had it right." (co-head coach Tom Lampe) The Falcons also put their first two on in the 4th with the teeth of their line up coming up. But Moore was able to set them down without much incident. "She is such a good pitcher. She moves the ball well. It's hard to square her up." (co-head coach Tom Lampe) The Broncos were able to put two on base in both the 4th and 5th inning. In the 4th, Claire Ryan singled and stole second. With two out, Hrncar hit Brooklyn Ottelien. But Hrncar got out of the inning with a great running catch by Julia Jester in center field. In the 5th Sam Carey and Kalista Hribar each singled with two out. Again it was Jester that chased down a fly ball to end the threat. With the win the Falcons improved to 9-1 in the Southern Lakes and 15-1 overall. They return to action tomorrow when they travel to the Poynette Jamboree to face Lacrosse Logan in a 4:00 tilt. "We love going to Poynette. There's a lot of good softball up there and we get to see teams we wouldn't normally see. Also we get some really challenging games. This year is no exception." (co-head coach Tom Lampe)
