Poynette edged New Lisbon today at the Portage Invitational 7-2 but had to overcome a 2-0 deficit after the top of the first inning as the Rockets came out swinging.

New Lisbon had three hits in a row to start the top of the first as Hansen doubled down the leftfield line on a slap swing. Unfortunately she was gunned down by Pumas’ catcher Riley Barnharst in an attempted swipe of third base. Pederson hit the next pitch about the diameter of the ball just inside the rightfield line then scored on a lined double in the gap in leftcenter by Olson. After an eror at first on a thrown ball to retire that next batter Olson scored to give the Rockets the 2-0 lead.

Pumas’ pitcher senior Allie Bredeson then settle down and began shooting down Rockets. She fanned the next two batters in the first to get out of the inning then allowed just two baserunners over the next five innings. She finished the game with eight strikeouts. “Allie really came around from yesterday where she was just a bit off and in the first inning today as well, said Head Coach Bob Tomlinson” we were proud of the way she pitched up there today,”

The Pumas started the come-back trip immediately in the first inning as MeganBrookins walked, stole second and moved to second on a bunt single that just popped over the hard charging third sacker’s glove. After a strikeout Broke Dredske singled to score Brookins  and when Abby Neabling executed a perfect suicide bunt Renz sprinted across the plate to tie the score.  The Pumas plated three runs in the second when Allison Tomlinson led off with a base on balls and after a botched sacrifice bunt moved up when Maegan Brookins singled to hard past third. Renz then singled and later scored on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Radewan.  Poynette added two more in the fourth as Brookins walked and quickly stole second base. She moved to second on a bunt by Renz  then scored when Radewan singled.  Radewan scored on a fiedler’s choice later in the inning.

Leading hitters for Poynette were Renz at 2-3 and Mya Knuteson at 2x3.
