Four Pumas had two hits or more, Dani Treinen hit a three-run homer to pace Poynette

Lakeside's Winter Petry went 3x4 as Lakeside collected nine hits

Poynette, WI  - Poynette took on a much improved and hard-hitting Lakeside Lutheran club today at Diamond of Champions here.

Senior rightfielder Dani Treinen hit her first-ever home run, a three-run shot over the fence in leftcenter to give the Pumas a 7-3 lead.

Lakeside opened fast at Becca Doering slapped her way on to lead off the game when her slapped ball got under pitcher Jordan Blochwitz' glove. She moved to second on a fielder's choice to second and scored on Winter Petry's first of three singles in the game.

The Pumas answered quickly in their half of first when Jordyn Mackey singled to right which was followed by a perfectly placed bunt by Shelby Wheeler. Sophomore third sacker Brooke Dredske lined a single to center that scored Mackey knotting the game at 1-1. After a strikeout Treinen delivered an rbi single to score Wheeler who had moved to third on a blocked pitch in the dirt. The runner at one did not advance and that wound up costing the Pumas a run as Treinen's single would have scored Dredske too but she was stranded at second.

The Warriors tied it when Hannah Hoffman, the #8 batter singled to right with two outs. Pitcher Hollie Doyle then doubled to rightcenter sending Hoffman to third. When Doering singled to left Hoffman scored when she beat Mya Knuteson's throw to the plate from left field. The throw would have been in time but it was off line to the third base side of the plate area.

In the Pumas' second Janna Sandstrom singled and moved to third on a sacrifice bunt by Knuteson who was safe on an errant throw from the first sacker to the second sacker covering the bag on the bunt. Dredske later followed with a two-out single that scored  Sandstrom and left Knuteson at second. Knuteson then swiped third base and scored on an errant throw to the bag making the score 4-2. Riley Barnharst drew just one of the four walks issued by Doyle. That sent Treinen to the plate The senior took an 0-1 Doyle offering deep for a three-run shot.

Poynette added an eighth run in the third when Sandstrom singled again, Knuteson walked and Mackey singled in the infield to load the bricks. A ground ball to third retired Sandstrom but Knuteson then scored on a wild pitch from Doyle.

Lakeside scored a third run in the top of the fourth on a Hoffman double and a dropped ball in rightfield after a long run by the outfielder.

Poynette threatened in the fourth with runners on second and third but Doyle worked out of trouble. Lakeside threatened in the fifth with runners on second and third with one out but Blochwitz worked out of the jam on an interference call when shortstop Shelby Wheeler got run into fielding an infield grounder.

Lakeside had nine hits including Petry's three singles in four at bats, Hoffman was 2x3 with a double as was Doyle.

The Pumas were led by Dredske at 2x3, Sandstrom at 2x3, Mackey, Treinen and Cibulka were all 2x4 as Poynette colllected 11 hits. Treinen had four rbi.

Poynette will move on and host the winner of a game between Wisconsin Heights and Cambridge. The Pumas boosted their season record to 25-1.
