Poynette puts wraps on 24-1 regular season, beats Wautoma in twinbill Friday

Scores were: First Game 6-0, Second Game 18-1

Poynette, WI - Poynette closed out its regular season on Friday with a twinbill victory over Wautoma here in front of a nice crowd on Senior Day and Youth Fastpitch Day. The final scores were 6-0 and 18-1.

In the opener Poynette pitcher Jordan Blochwitz threw yet another shutout as she allowed just two hits and fanned eight Hornets. She walked none of them.

On offense the Pumas scored one in the first inning when Jordyn Mackey led off the bottom of the inning with a single, stole second and moved to third on a sacrifice bunt by Shelby Wheeler. Mackey scored on a a fielder's choice off the bat off Riley Barnharst. That would have been the only run Blochwitz would have needed to get the win but the Pumas weren't finished scoring. They plated three more in the third inning of Hornet pitcher Grace Lehr when Wheeler singled, moved second on a bunt by Brooke Dredske and scored on a Barnharst double to the fence in rigthcenter, Poynette catcher Emily CIbulka then singled to score the run. Courtesy runner Haley Radewan then scored as the result of some good baserunning when she stole third and scored when the throw got away from the Hornets. In the Poynette sixth walks and an error caused Lehr difficulties. She walked t he first batter of the inning (Radewan), fanned one then walked Allie Bredeson. A wild pitch moved the runners and an error at shortstop scored one and a fielder's choice another.  

Senior centerfielder Jenna Sandstrom went 2x3 for the Pumas and Barnharst's double was the only extra base hit of the game.

In game two the Pumas collected 16 hits off Hornet pitcher Hannah Struzunski while Allie Bredeson and Haley Radewan and some excellent defense held off the Hornets. 

Poynette scored three in the first, one in the second, 10 in the third, two in the fourth and two in the fifth to notch the 24th win of the season for Poynette. At least one hit was recorded in each of the nine batting order spots in the Pumas' lineup. Cibulka went 3x3, rightfielder Dani Treinen was also 3x3 while Dredske was 3x5 and Wheeler was 2x2.

Cibulka capped her regular season with a grand slam in the third while Dredske blasted her school record seventh home run on the season with a two-run shot in the fifth. Treinen and Cibukla each doubled as well.

The Hornets scored their run in the bottom of the fifth off Radewan who allowed a single to Hannah Bundle who then stole second basse and later scored on a single off the bat of Emma Lehr. Jackie Moddzen went 3x3 for the Hornets while Struzynski went 2x2. The Hornets finished the regular season 9-13 on the year. Their final three games of the season were one against Marshall and the twinbill against Poynette.
