Westosha Central finishes one game up on Union Grove

Kayla Konwent hits 18th home run this season, adds to state record

Westosha Central won its fourth consecutive Southern Lakes Conference title with a 10-1 victory at Burlington last night.

The Falcons were powered by three home runs and a solid pitching performance by Alyssa Hrncar to secure the outrightchampionship.  “Our bats came alive right from the beginning,” said Co-Head Coach Tom Lampe. “ That was what we needed heading into the playoffs.”

Central took a quick lead in the first inning when Kira Mickelson hit her  fourth  home run of the season with a two-run shot to left.  They added a run in the 2nd when Jenna Kontaxis scored Olivia Klean, who had doubled to start the inning.  Julia Jester added two more runs in the 4th when she plated Elaine Andersen with shot to left field for her first home run of the season.  “Julia has been getting closer and closer for the last few weeks,” added the coach.  “ It was great to see her have such good at bats.”

The Falcons added three more off pitcher Danielle Koenen in the fifth.  Hrncar led off with a single and Kayla Konwent followed with another single.  Chyanne Onstad plated Hrncar with a double and Mickelson added two more RBIs with her own double to left center.  Central got its final two runs in familiar fashion.  In the sixth Konwent connected for her 18th home run of the season, a two-run shot to dead center.  “That ball got out in a hurry,” quipped Lampe.  “ She is such an amazing hitter.  Nothing she does stuns me.”

The Demons were able to score a run in the bottom of the sixth when Talyn Lewis connected for a home run to left center.  “She’s a good hitter but that was about the only mistake Alyssa made all night.  She really dominated in the circle and rose to the occasion when she needed to,” said Lampe.

With the win the Falcons conclude the conference season 13-1 which edged Union Grove by one game.  Their overall record improved to 22-3.  They conclude their regular season when they host Kenosha Bradford for a 4:30 tilt in Paddock Lake.
