Jim "Louie" Lawinger records 400th Varsity Coaching Victory

Lawinger coaching at Platteville after years at Sussex Hamilton

On the weekend, longtime Sussex Hamilton Assistant Coach Tom Schuldt called me and inforaed me that after having recorded 399 varsity wins as head coach at Sussex Hamilton High School (a number he reached by even taking a year off a few years ago), Jim "Louie" Lawinger retired and moved back to his hometown of Platteville. Once there he was urged to take over the reins at Platteville High School and ultimately accepted the challenge.

In his first game as head coach at his alma mater Louie chalked up win number 400 and joins a special list of Wisconsin coaches who have reached that milepost. Here is a link to that list of coaches. Congratulations to Louie for reaching that number of wins and a big thank you for staying involved in the game. He will receive a Fastpitch Chronicle Coaching Wins award commemorating his 400th varsity win. Thanks to Tom Schuldt for passing that information along to me. Tom coached at the lower levels at Hamilton for 26 years.

The rankings for Week 2 were posted late afternoon today. There were a lot of rankers who sent in rankings late. Since there are so many teams that haven't played I didn't think waiting an extra 16 hours was a bad idea. However, there must be a lot of people who watch for things like that because I've been bombarded with e-mails all day from people who said they were denied access and wanted to know what was up.

The Poynette Fastpitch Jamboree is fast approaching. Actually it's approaching faster than I am ready for. Just today another team asked to get in and another asked for more games. With the weather the way it is, scheduling earlier than I normally do doesn't allow for being flexible nor allows me to get teams some games. As of tonight I'm looking at at least 12 games to be played on Friday, May 2nd. On Saturday,  May 3rd we are at 76 requested games which means 38 games. We have 11 fields and can play at least 4 games on that day on each field. That means I have some space available for teams to still jump in. To be sure your team is on my list click here to get a look at the list of teams for Friday and Saturday of the Jamboree. The actual URL of that quick link above is http://www.fastpitchchronicle.com/jamboree14.htm so you can access it either way and bookmark the link. Check it often.

The 2014 No Hitter List is up and several pitchers are posted therein.

If you know of a coach whose name belongs somehere on the Coaches Honor Roll Page just e-mail the information to me.

The WFSCA senior all star selections were done this past weekend. It will be interesting to see who will be the first group of kids to play the all star games on artificial surfaces. Keep checking the WFSCA site as well as this one.

It was a cold, wet day and we were forced to practice indoors again. Once we get outdoors, having to go back inside is tough on everyone. I know there are people who are in worse situations when it comes to the weather and climate than I am but I'm sure they feel the same way once they get outside.

Keep checking the site. If you have things or topics you'd like more information about or would like me to write about just drop me an e-mail.

Here's to better weather down the road so we can -----

Keep it Rising!

Bob
