Portage claims to be Where the North Begins and Poynette is ten miles south of Portage

Six teams to play in Poynette on Saturday

What can high school coaches do when their fields are covered with snow, ice or are not yet dried out from so much snow and ice.

They can continue to practice indoors and hope for better days or --- they can contact the Poynette coach and set up games on the Poynette fields.

That's what Stratford, Chequamegon, Wrightstown, Iola-Scandinavia, Wausau West and D.C. Everest will do on Saturday. They'll all travel to Poynette and play games all day. Four of the six teams will play three games while the other two will both play a pair of games. In addition to those games Chequamegon has set up a game with Lodi in Lodi in Friday evening which means the Screaming Eagles will get four games in before heading back to northern Price County.

The games begin at 11:00 am with DC Everest taking on Iola-Scandinavia, Stratford taking on Chequamegon and Wausau West playing Wrightstown. At 1:00 PM D.C. Everest will play Chequamegon, Stratford will do battle with Wrightstown while Wausau West and Iola will tussle.

At 3:00 PM Wausau West and Iola-Scandinavia will have headed for home while D.C. Everest will play Stratford and Chequamegon will take on Wrightstown.

Poynette has offered the use of the fields with no strings attached or user fees. It's what we do here in Poynette. It's about the game and getting people a chance to play the game.

There will be two fields in use at the high school and one field at the Village Park downtown. the Wausau West vs Wrightstown game and the Wausau West vs Iola-Scandinavia games will be played at the Village Park.

There will not be an admission fee and concessions will be available all day long at the high school fields with concessions also being catered to the downtown field throughout the two games there.

The high school is located adjacent to U.S. Highway 51. For GPS users the high school address is 108 Cleveland Street. The Village Park is located on Main Street right in the center of the village.
