Bruce Wuchterl throws out opening pitch in Poynette today

Today's Fastpitch Chronicle Fastpitch News Bulletin

Let's get after it!

More and more games are getting played. The first Fastpitch Chronicle rankings have been posted since Sunday and have already created a stir. They'll change a lot in the coming weeks.

Today was opening day in Poynette where the Pumas are playing on a much improved facility. To get things going each game the Pumas are now having celebrities throw out an opening pitch at each home game. Today's celebrity pitcher was longtime Marshall High School softball coach Bruce Wuchterl. There will be at least one person tossing opening pitches at every game. It took an extra 30 seconds today to get it done. Thanks to Bruce for agreeing to be our first-ever celebrity Opening Pitch Deliverer.

The City of Portage logo depicts a Native Amercian portaging his canoe betweeen the Fox and Wisconsin Rivers. The City's longtime slogan is "Where the North Begins." As you travel U.S. Highways 16 and 51 on the south side of the city you will come to a park on the south side of the four lanes with a huge sign that the slogan appears on. It's a cool logo and slogan.

On Saturday of this week Poynette will be hosting "The Northwoods Fastpitch Jamboree Just Ten Miles South of Where the North Begins." Poynette is about 10 miles south of Portage on Highway 51. On Saturday Stratford, Chequamegon, Iola-Scandinavia, Wausau West, D.C. Everest and Wrightstown varsity softball teams will play games in Poynette. Four of the teams will play three games while two of them will play two. In addition to those games, Chequamegon will play a game against Lodi on Friday afternoon at Lodi's field.

It promises to be a great day of fastpitch softball. The games begin at 11:00 a.m. on the two softball fields at Poynette High School as well as the softball field at the Village of Poynette's Pauquette Park.

Megan Wiersma of Columbus tossed a no-hitter tonight at Cambridge. Last year's Capitol North Pitcher of the Year, now a sophomore, is off to a great start in 2014. On Friday Columbus hosts Poynette in a key Capitol North twinbill beginning at 4:00 p.m.

Have a great fastpitch day!

Keep it Rising!

Bob
