Goes 4-0 in the round robin event

Behind some stellar pitching and timely hitting, the Poynette Crush 10-U team claimed first place at a tournament in Middleton last weekend.

The girls opened play against a team from Oregon and claimed a close 4-3 victory. Casey Fountain was in the circle for The Crush. She struck out 11 Oregon batters while issuing just four walks and scattering a pair of singles. Zoie Ramberg supplied some offensive punch as did Hannah McNicol as each had a single.

Poynette then took on a team from Middleton and cruised to a 22-6 win. Ramberg twirled a no-hitter while fanning seven and walking seven. She added a home run and single to help her own cause. Mikayla Fox also had a home run for Poynette while Lizzy Schwenn had a triple.

Game three saw Poynette take on a very strong New Berlin Magic team. The Crush, behind Fountain’s one-hitter with nine strikeouts and just two walks won the game 1-0. Lizzy Schwenn scored the game’s only run after reaching on a single and stealing second base. Mara Millard then delivered the big blow for the Crush as she doubled, sending Schwenn racing home.

The final game of the round robin event was against the Johnson Creek Thundercats. The final score was 3-0 as Fountain again tossed a two-hitter, walked only two and fanned seven. Lucy Cuff reached first on a base on balls and after stealing second and third scored on Lizzy Schwenn’s single.

Poynette is now 14-1 on the season and will play in one more tournament on August 2nd in Stoughton. Team members are: Casey Fountain, Zoie Ramberg, Mara Millard, Lucy Cuff, Lizzy Schwenn, Mikayla Fox, Kirstin Doherty, Peyton Gest, Hannah McNicol and Tia Bauerenhuber.
