Grantsburg moved to 2-1 on the season with a tight 5-3 win over Cameron at the Pirate softball field in Grantsburg. Grantsburg got out to a lead and held on for the win over the Comets.
Leading 3-1 in the bottom of the fourth the Pirates loaded the bases on a single, two perfectly placed bunts that loaded the bricks for Hanne Johnson. She delivered a two-out base hit to boost the lead to 5-1.
The Comets battled back to make it 5-3. In the top of the seventh the numbers 8 and 9 batters went down. With two dead they got a pair of singles followed by a bobbled ball at first to load the bases for the clean up hitter. She worked the count to 2-2 but Carely Gross, on in relief of Ellie Tebow got her to swing and miss on a low, outside strike to end the game.
Ellie Tebow picked up the win for the Pirates with Carley Gross notching the save for the Pirates.
