Final was 3-1

Both offenses struggled to get going as Shoreland outlasted St Joe 3-1 in Somers on Tuesday.  St Joe scored it's lone run in the first when leadoff hitter Megan Setter tripled and came home on Caitlyn Janis's double.  St Joe would only get one hit and one walk the rest of the game.

Shoreland evened the score at one each in the bottom of the first. Emily Jones reached after being hit, stole second and then reached 3rd on a wild pitch.  Kelsey Hill drove in the run with a groundout to short.  The Pacers scored the go ahead run in the bottom of the 5th when Haylee Dodd walked, stole second, and then came home on 2 throwing errors by the Lancers.

Janis hit a 2 out triple in the top of the 6th for the Lancers. After getting the 2nd out of the inning via strikeout, Janis was caught at home when Vic Miller tagged her trying to steal home on a wild pitch that dribbled away.  The insurance run came home in the bottom of the 6th. With one out Bree James singled off the right center fence, stole 2nd and then scored on a bunt by Holly Fink and throwing error by the Lancers.

Kelsey Hill claimed the win going 7 innings, 3 hits, 1 Earned Run, 1 BB, and 16 K's.  James was 1-3 with a run scored, Hill 0-3 with the rbi, and Dodd 0-1, 2 walks, 1 SB, and a run. Janis was 2-3 with a double and triple and an rbi. The Pacers moved to 2-1 and 1-0 in the Metro Classic. St Joe is 0-1 in conference.

Shoreland next plays at Racine Lutheran on Thursday.

"Our girls found a way to get a great first conference win when our bats were silent.  We got some baserunners at key times and put pressure on them to make plays.  Kelsey had really good stuff today.  Great win for us to start building confidence."
